The Hurunui Youth Council (HYC) aims to encourage young people to get involved in community affairs and events. HYC members meet monthly to discuss issues that affect young people in the Hurunui District, gain valuable skills and learn about local government. The HYC contributes to Hurunui District Council decision-making by providing a youth perspective, and a youth voice on relevant issues. HYC members also meet other youth from around the Hurunui District, as well as Waimakariri and Selwyn districts, and have further leadership development opportunities.
Hurunui Youth Council members meet every three weeks on Mondays 4.30-6.30pm. There are bimonthly formal meetings in the Hurunui District Council Chambers in Amberley, with two workshops in between at alternating libraries around the district.
